Summer, Part Three

Today began around 5:15 am, with a flurry of activity that revolved around getting our two California girls to the airport for a very early flight. Then, for me, it was back to bed, which proved more unsuccessful than anything else as the sun was quite bright. I managed a few extra hours and then got down to the final business of the summer, which is the clearing of the basement storage cantina and sorting of all kinds of boxes which have been down there since the move over a year ago.

The sorting took most of the day, and tomorrow, I need to properly pack up the various boxes destined for a garage sale in a few weeks, and those we intend to keep in the storage area. I also need to go through each room and see if any items can be added to the outbound piles. Once we've got the redundant things taken care of, we will need to decide where to place the art and other display items, although I suspect this may need to wait until Austin's return from his conference, which takes him back to San Francisco next week. I wish I could join him, but there is too much to do around here in the waning days of summer- the house and yards have been neglected by Summer, Parts One and Two, and I also need to visit the doctor, the dentist, the physiotherapist, and a few friends before heading back to the classroom in two weeks. The house also needs a top-to-bottom cleaning as well as a huge organisational overhaul, and this must be done before I go back to work.

Whiskey was moping around all day today, looking for Autumn and Antoinette to return from wherever they went this morning. He looks quite forlorn; as you can see from the Port Dover picture taken last weekend, he was quite attached to them and doesn't understand where they've gone. It's adorable, no? And my alpha-cat Dalziel is also wondering where the "meat lady" went and does not seem pleased at all that there are only vegetarians left in the house.

Aw, poor Whiskey missing his friends. And Dalziel having more self-serving concerns in mind, as cats do...

Kind of a summer's end feeling in your post.

I would be depressed too if I was only given food for weeks, by vegetarians ;) (having said that, I must say the Rosotto last week was great!).

T'was thinking about you yesterday - but glad you had such an awesome summer.

I'm off to physio yesterday - yeah - although I've been in running shoes all week so that is helping a lot. Not great for business attire - but health comes first I say!

I hope The California A&A had a good flight home. It was great to see them.

Yikes, housecleaning. Guess I better do some before that Swiss girl arrives demain.

dogs are quick to routine. ahh. I love the photo here. Captures the hours before the time to get up and sort or the time after the sort.

And in two weeks....

If anyone knows how to make the most of a summer holiday, it's you.

I imagine you get the same "back to school" signs going up in all the stores as we do in the UK? Part poopers for sure.

We Brits have been spoilt for sun this year, and it's been ace.

Haven't had a lot of sun lately...been rather dull here but today I see it peeking out of the clouds! Read on the balcony I say!

How bizarre. I wrote a comment here yesterday, but now it's not here! Maybe I got the word verification wrong and didn't notice.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say don't over do it again, dear Anne Marie. Your shoulder seemed so much better, it would be such a shame to put it out again by working too hard. Your list of chores sounds daunting!

I love the pic of Whiskey and Autumn. How sweet he looks! He will miss you as well when you go back to work. By the way, Sin sulked for a couple of days after you two left as well. I think she got rather attached to you both...hardly surprising, though, cos I did too.

Hi everyone,
Please have no worries about my working "too" hard. I have been thoroughly enjoying the best weather on both sides of the ocean since the first day of school holidays, and ran away once more this weekend to my sister's summer place.

Maria, I don't really see the "end" of summer yet- it's still really warm and sometimes we get what is called Indian Summer right until the end of October, so I will keep the fingers crossed there.

Lesley, yes, everyone is safely back in SF and at school already! I am glad we stay on a bit later and get to enjoy the hottest months off.

Grace and GIna, I have finally realised what a big suck my pony dog is. Under that menacing growl is a big softie, but as long as he puts on the tough guy act for prowlers, I won't give away his secret. :)

Ian, the sale signs are up, the coats and boots are in display windows, and I'll just ignore it all, thank you very much. Easy to do without kids. I don't know if you saw the comic book post, but I did finally describe my Belgian museum visits.

String, we've had a bit more rain too, but that didn't stop me getting into Lake Erie all weekend. I figure as long as the thunder and lightning stay away, wet is wet. :)

Val, I am going to try to spread out the manual labour so I don't get re-injured. The driving this weekend was not great for it, but I am going to try not to go full throttle. I miss you guys loads, too, it really seems like ages ago. Must not make it a 4-year gap again.
