The Cabot Trail is a scenic drive that goes through Cap Breton Highlands National Park in Cape Breton, a small, ruggedly beautiful island off the coast of Nova Scotia. The island is also famous for its Acadian culture (see the lobster trap picture for a likeness of the Acadian flag), and its world-class fiddlers in the likes of Ashley McIsaac and Natalaie McMaster, among others.
We decided to see the entire trail, which is a 200 km road around the national park. During the drive, we found two moose at the side of the road, the young one (pictured above and the star of numerous videos that are too long to upload here) not bothered at all by the attention he was getting from cameras and my video attempts, the older one not so friendly and annoyed at my husband's camera clicking. He didn't stay too long, as you'll see below.

As you can see from the pictures I took, the park is incredibly breathtaking to go through. It reminded me of our trip to the Scottish highlands, and is well named. Being there was just as beautiful and memorable as our trip to Scotland. The next time we go back, I want to do some real camping there and hike the trails. There are black bears, coyotes, and moose to encounter inside the park, and I would love to actually walk those paths. Next trip...

Here is my video of the older moose we saw. The clicking of my husband's camera seemed to irritate him and you'll see that I dropped my camera suddenly because he looked like he was going to charge our way. In fact, he crossed the road and went off into the woods for some peace and quiet. I can't say I blamed him one bit. Is it me or do they look like camels with antlers?

Ohh my Anne-Marie! I'm so glad the moose didn't charge you! These photos and vids are fantastic.
Hope all is well!
Wow, Anne Marie, that scenery is gorgeous. You are right about Scotland, and a lot of Ireland is rather similar too, but I expect Nova Scotia has more of the same and fewer people. I WANT to go there!! Love the Moose..he looks generally amiable though, doesn't he?
Anne Marie, those pictures are beautiful. I love the Moose, great capture of him and the video too.

What, no Bigfoot pictures?
Aye, it’s like Scotland, and perhaps Ireland too, and if you were to have several of the black beers too many down at O’Neill’s bar, there near Grafton Street on a Friday night, you might swear indeed when fumbling for keys, that it was a moose you’d seen on that tricky trip home. And of all the places to see one, wasn’t the moose only loitering about, spooking the locals, in a Dublin elevator.
Hope you are well,
P
Perhaps more like Scotland than you think. According to the news, animals like boars and wolves may be re-introduced to the Highlands.
well, a day late and a Canadian dollar short...I'm here!
I'd say they look as tho they know they're being watched at least (not necessarily captured in the form of footage to be shown on a blog). And then, the one you thought might charge you, he looks like an insurance salesman with bad karma.
you've brought a little card and ariel view to life.
(sorry you're home?)
thank you,
