Is This Thing On?

A lot of the old gang is back, and for this, I am truly happy and grateful. What drew me to this group back in 2005, other than Pete Townshend novella blog, was the ability of the people here to delve into topics deeply at times, and to draw me in to whatever discussions or observations were the order of the day. There were moments of levity and quick stopovers, but there were also big ideas and philosophical debates that don't exist in any other social media platform anymore. Everywhere else, it seems, people are shouting, mocking, and too frightened by the prospect of actually having genuine conversations, and it doesn't work for me anymore.

So here I am. Back in the place that started this social media experiment for me almost 15 years ago. I just replied to a friend's thoughtful post about the pitfalls of mobile phones and I am not sure my reply was transmitted properly, which is a bit of a shame because my response was eloquent and well-thought out. I think I need to tweak some settings here and there, which I will get to very soon.

So, in the meantime, I am delighted to be back reading. String, I thoroughly enjoyed your two-part articles even though my response seems to have vanished in the ether, and Gina, I am trying to move beyond having to log into Chrome in order to interact. Soon be home, as The Who famously sang.

Thank you, I am so disappointed your reply vanished in the digital ethers...I agree with you 100% - for awhile, on FB things seemed to be 'interesting' in the form of discussions, creativity - and then it became a monetary platform and people also became aware of how much data was harvested...Yesterday I listened to Ronan Farrow's podcast - 'Catch and Kill' about Harvey Weinstein and the first episode is very enlightening about spyware...everything discussed about this in the first podcast was on the news last night...odd. Glad to be back, let's keep an open forum for creativity going.

You have no idea how glad I am that you and String are back here, Anne-Marie. I've missed you all. I've been quite doggedly determined to maintain my blog even though I rarely get into discussion on my own page. I see it as more of a show and share space with just an occasional comment on what I observe in the world around me. However, I'm very active in reading and commenting on other blogs, so it's lovely to see old friends returning to blogosphere and to be able to really 'talk' to them.

Gracious I am sorry about Chrome. Last I'd looked, they don't own me ;-) Because I am at work for hours on end, and the blog here really ages me quite, I have been lax to understand the settings. I got them right now except does anyone remember how we could nix the evil scrollers? The bullies and taunters? I do. Someone (a dude) tore into me quite hard over to TBWHM I think everyone was scared for a spell. Oh, the innocent days.

It feels good to be back! However, I must learn proper time management, between the tangible and that of the ether. It is currently a work in progress, and a continuing lesson in priorities.
Friends, is what we are! xx
