The beautiful shores at Portpatrick, in the south-west area of Dumfries and Galloway. This beautiful town was once an important ferry port for travel between Ireland and Scotland, but due to many shipwrecks, was abandoned in favour of Stranraer, situated in the calmer waters of Loch Ryan in the peninsula to the north.
Ailsa Craig, the fairy rock in Ayrshire, captured from the shore as we made our way towards Glasgow on the coastal route from Stranraer.
The isle of Arran, taken from the boat as we made our way back across the Firth of Clyde to Ardrossan.
Along the hiking trail just beyond the village of Glencoe in the Highlands, we found this beautiful lake with trees imported from Canada. It was the only time during our visit that we felt the landscape reminded us of home. And yet, the soft purples of heather on the hills and mountains definitely told us otherwise.

Stirling is often referred to as the 'gateway to the Highlands'. Stirling Castle offers visitors a magnificent view of the nearby Ochil Hills.
As our trip came to an end, we went to visit friends in the town of Tillicoultry, and were even more delighted to find that the Ochil Hills were in their backyard. Literally. I was quite green with envy, and would be thrilled and grateful if they would adopt me for a few months a year.
